First, let’s just take a moment to realize how lucky we are to live in a society where we can take steps towards creating the life we dream of. This is a gift I am grateful for every day.
Maybe you already know what it is you want in life, or maybe you are still figuring it out; Keep in mind, our goals and dreams are likely to change as we go through life, and that’s perfectly normal and even encouraged!
As we are on this journey to create our dream life, we must also learn to be thankful for our current situation and appreciate every moment we are given. It is easy to get so caught up trying to HAVE THE BEST LIFE, that you forget to make THE BEST OF THE LIFE YOU HAVE. Find the balance.
All that being said…
10 STEPS TO GETTING WHAT YOU WANT IN LIFE
“May she always try to be her best self. May she work toward the life that will truly Satisfy Her Soul.”
STEP 1: Know exactly what you want.
Whether it’s 3 kids and a golden retriever; Being a successful self-employed business woman; Having a living space you LOVE coming home to; Being a full-time musician…. Okay so maybe these are all the things that I personally want– but you get the point! Be Specific. What will make you happy. What will make you proud. Ask yourself hard questions. Visualize. Do pros & cons. Try things out. Write it down.
STEP 2: Do your research.
Who else has been successful at getting these specific things? How did they do it? What was their timeline? What would you do differently? Do you have everything you need to begin?
STEP 3: Create a SHORT-TERM & LONG-TERM Goal List.
Essentially a business plan. Know exactly what you need to do to move towards your dream life. Make a plan for this week, this month, this year, etc. Put it up where you can see it every day.
STEP 4: Make sure you are in the right environment to succeed.
Is your current living situation working for you, or against you? Maybe you need to re-arrange your space to make it more efficient and inspiring. Maybe you need to move cities, provinces or even countries! Getting what you want can sometimes take big sacrifices.
STEP 5: Don’t let anyone deter you from reaching your dreams.
People can be quick to judge, or solicit unwanted advice. Hear them out, and decide if this information is valuable to you. Make sure you are only surrounding yourself with people who encourage you and have your best intentions at heart.
STEP 6: Get as much help as you can get!
Ask, and ye shall receive! Ask your friends and family, or ask big influencers even if you think they will never read your message, you might get more than you expect! Reach out to companies, use the internet to your advantage. Learn as much as possible. Many people are more than happy to support one another. Don’t forget to thank them and support them back!
STEP 7: Work hard & Be Consistent
Good things come to those who work for them. Strive towards your goals EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Be persistent. Be smart with your time. Find out what inspires you to work. Maybe it’s working at a cafe with a friend on a #HustleDate. Maybe it’s working near a window with lots of natural sunlight. Maybe it’s setting your space with a candle and a cup of tea. Know what you need in order to be in a positive, productive mood.
STEP 8: Track your progress.
Check off your short-term goals one at a time. Be proud of every small step you take towards your dreams. Don’t be discouraged; Have patience and congratulate yourself often. It isn’t easy but know it will be worth it!
STEP 9: Enjoy the journey!
Like I said at the beginning of this post: Don’t get so distracted by your goals that you forget to enjoy the little things in every day life. Spend time with family and friends, give yourself the rest you need so you don’t burn yourself out. Take good care of yourself in the process. You only have one you!
Step 10: Be prepared for success!
Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it! Plan for success- Don’t be surprised by it. What happens when you get your dream life? You can re-evaluate! Make new short and longterm goals to achieve. You can help others reach their goals. Continue to have a purpose in life and don’t forget to look back on everything you have done and take pride in all your accomplishments.
