Oprah Winfrey: What I Know For Sure

On Sunday, I was contemplating what my next blog post should be about. All of a sudden, I remembered how much I loved reading Oprah Winfrey’s What I Know For Sure, and headed upstairs to grab the book and begin writing.

Next thing I knew, Oprah Winfrey was trending world-wide for her Golden Globes Award and Acceptance Speech. In this poignant speech, Oprah said “I want all of the girls watching here now to know, that a new day is on the horizon.” As I listened to her words of wisdom, it reassured me that my next post should absolutely be about Oprah Winfrey and her inspirational book, What I Know For Sure.

What I Know For Sure is a collection of anecdotes from Oprah’s life that touch on many topics such as:

  • What I Know For SureJoy
  • Resilience
  • Connection
  • Gratitude
  • Possibility
  • Awe
  • Clarity
  • Power

The inspiration behind “What I Know For Sure” comes from a live-television interview Oprah did in 1988. The interview was going swimmingly until the final question stumped her: “What do you know for sure?”

Since she was asked that question years ago, Oprah has been collecting life lessons as she learns them and has now shared them with us in this book.

The brilliance and inspiring, profound quotes I could share with you from this book are endless, so I will only share with you a couple. If these peak your interest, definitely get your hands on a copy of “What I Know For Sure” and read it for yourself! You won’t regret it.

What I know for sure is this: You are built not to shrink down to less but to blossom into more. To be more splendid. More extraordinary. To use every moment to fill yourself up.”
― Oprah Winfrey, What I Know For Sure

“When you make loving others the story of your life, there’s never a final chapter, because the legacy continues. You lend your light to one person, and he or she shines it on another and another and another. The only thing that will have any lasting value is whether we’ve loved others and whether they’ve loved us.”
― Oprah Winfrey, What I Know For Sure
