We all know that breaking a bad habit is easier said than done. In order to succeed, we need to focus on the step before breaking the habit, rather than the habit itself.
For example, if you want to start waking up at 7am every morning, you can’t just set your alarm and hope for the best. The step before breaking the habit, in this instance, would be going to bed earlier to ensure you are well-rested. This “step before breaking the habit” is the key to success that is often over-looked.
After many failed diets, exercise routines and unsuccessful attempts to eliminate proclivities, I have realized how important that step before can be. It is almost impossible the break a habit without figuring out what it’s going to take in order to do so. We need to set ourselves up and figure out what we are going to need to succeed. We should be focusing on the step before breaking the habit, rather than the habit itself.
What is a habit that you want to break, or a habit that you want to implement into your lifestyle? If you have tried and failed in the past, perhaps look at the step before breaking the habit to see where you might have went wrong.
This might seem like a simple task, but I personally, often overlook this step and will not succeed because of it. After analyzing what might be the problem, this is the conclusion I have come to.
