5 New Things I Do (Now That I Work at a Health Store)

new things I do

As previously mentioned in a recent blog post, my part-time job is currently at a health & nutrition store, working in the supplements department. I am really enjoying all of the training, and deciding which products I wish to incorporate into my daily routine. Even though I haven’t really made a conscious effort to change, this environment has positively influenced many aspects of my day to day. When I realized this, I decided to share a few of these in this “5 new things I do” blog post! Thanks for reading!

5 New Things I Do

(Now That I Work at a Health Store)

1 – Drinking protein shakes

Before I worked at the health store, I was under a misconception that protein powders would make me gain weight, and become bulkier. I thought they were only for people who heavily exercised. Now I think of them as an excellent way to get an amazing serving of nutrients – like a nutrition shake.

I have tried my fair share of protein powders now, and have both loved and hated certain brands.new things I do

My absolute FAVOURITE so far has been the Chocolate Peanut Butter protein superfood powder by Amazing Grass. It is an “All-In-One” nutrition shake with 20g of protein, 7 alkalizing greens and 9 fruits & veggies in every scoop! AND IT TASTES LIKE PEANUT BUTTER AND CHOCOLATE. Need I say more? I have gone through so much of this already. I also have tried the chocolate protein by the same brand and liked it almost just as much.

2 – Taking multi-vitamins

I have learned SO much about vitamins at this job. A great, quality, WHOLE FOOD multi-vitamin can be life-changing. Many of us are deficient in things and may not even know it. This can interfere with our hormones, mood, immunity, and other issues as we age.

I love vitamins that read like a grocery list- the ingredients are from food and not synthesized. The ones I have in my cupboard right now are from “Pranin” and “Megafood” and they make me feel amazing.

3 – Drinking water regularly

As you may know from a previous post – The Week of Drinking Only Water, I used to be TERRIBLE at drinking enough water (or any water, to be honest). Now, I easily finish my stainless steel water bottle twice every day.

I crave water every morning and before I go to bed. Such a huge change for me and I love it!

4 – Fighting off seasonal cold & flu

new things I doI did a whole separate post about my favourite ways to fight off the seasonal cold (which I haven’t had the entire season, despite being constantly around sick customers at the health store). My favourite product I have tried is Oregano-8 by Platinum Naturals, it definitely does the trick whenever I feel something coming on.

5 – Switching out my chemical-filled beauty products

Switching out the majority of my beauty products is possibly the most drastic of the new things I do since working at the health store. I have learned so much about how most of the products we own build up toxins in our bodies and ultimately wreak havoc on our organs. Our liver can only clear out so much, and many of the chemicals cannot be completely removed.

This being said, I have been trying to use up my old, chemical filled products, and as I do, I replace them with better options. It’s not something that I can change overnight, but it is a work in progress.

I have switched out some of my make-up, body wash, toothpaste, kleenex, deodorant, sunscreen, hair products, candles and bath soaks.

These are just 5 of the new things I do since I began working at the health store, but there are so many more. These subtle changes have made me a happier & healthier me! Every tiny change is a step in the right direction and I know many of them are helping the environment as well!

Let me know what you do on a daily basis to keep happy & healthy in the comments below, I would love to hear.
